Disparate Bombyx
The disparate bombyx or spongy is a invasive insect.
This species exists nowadays in all the Northern hemisphere. When it was introduced in America in 1869, it multiplied there at any speed while becoming a true plague. In Europe, it attacks with the oak groves and sometimes the fruit trees of the hot areas. It pullulates certain years and the trunks of the trees then are literally covered with layings protected by the clear hairs that the female takes of its abdomen.
- Distribution: North America, Europe, North Africa and Central Asia.
- Plant-hosts: Betula , Crataegus , Larix , Picea , Malus , Populus , Prunus , Quercus , Salix , Ulmus .
