The park Disneyland in California is the first of the Disney parks, and only “the kingdom magic” conceived and seen by Walt Disney. It was inaugurated the July 17th 1955. It was built in a little more than one year by the teams of Walt Disney Imagineering. Walt Disney had to build it to off borrow money partly from ABC in exchange of the production of the famous series Disneyland then Wonderful World Walt Disney .
The park was built on an old orange grove of Anaheim of 73 ha, in the Orange county, to about thirty kilometers in the south-east of Los Angeles. Only 37 ha constitute the park itself, it is smallest of the magic kingdoms of Disney. The park is called “the merriest place of the world” (Happiest Place one Earth).
The park belongs to the complex Disneyland Resort which includes/understands also another park, Disney' S California Adventure, several hotels and a retail park.
The concept and construction

The original concept of Walt Disney was to see a permanent and family park of leisures without the negative elements often associated with the carnivals and fun fairs. It developed this idea during its many exits with his daughters Diane and Sharon, when it realized that there was no park where the activities allowed the parents and the children to have fun together.
With the beginning of the year 1950, it made work of the members of the Disney studios to the design of a Disney park. In 1952, it creates the company WED Entreprises to gather the employees harnessed with the project.
After the research undertaken by Standford Research Institute, Disney bought a plantation of oranges to Anaheim in the south-east of Los Angeles. But in lack of financings, Walt of asking of the assistance. It is the chain ABC which, in exchange of the signing of a contract for a television program and the series Zorro , financed the park to a total value of 500.000$. Work began in August 1954 and the park opened the July 17th 1955.
The history

The project is born in 1948 in the form from an internal note from Walt Disney. It marks a stage with the creation of WED Entreprises, a company dedicated to the design of the park. After one year of work, the park is inaugurated on July 17th, 1955 and opens with the public the following day.
During its first decade of existence, the park sees the addition of many attractions like Dumbo' S Flying Elephants (at the end of summer 1955), Matterhorn Bobsleds (1959), Disneyland Monorail (1959), Swiss Family Treehouse (1962), Enchanted Tiki Room (1963) and It' S.A. Small World (1965). In 1963, the park opens a new Land: New Orleans Public garden.
The death of Walt Disney in 1966 causes a few years later a lull in the history of the park, after the projects in progress were carried out. Thus the Land of Tommorrowland is completely renovated in 1967. From its projects are born off attractions Pirates Caribbean (1967), Haunted Mansion (1969) and Space Mountain (1977). The latter opened initially in Florida in 1974 but the concept of SpacePort dating from the years 1960 could not have been carried out because of the enormous budget necessary to its development. In 1972, the park opens the Land of Bear Country (famous Critter Country in 1988) and launches the first Main Street Electrical Parade.
The last great attraction of Disneyland which is born from an idea, then very vague, appeared during the life of Walt is Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. This Russian Montagne rises from a project going back to 1965 from river in Far West (Western To rivet Forwarding) planned for the Magic Kingdom but noncarried out. The Land of Tommorrowland is again completely renovated in 1981-82.
After the exhaustion of the " projects; in progress " , the projects begin again with the new direction of Walt Disney Company installation in 1984 with as chairman Michael Eisner. Star Turns opens in 1987 and Splash Mountain in 1989.
The park opens a new Land, Mickey' S Toontown, in 1993 and uses a tunnel under the Disneyland Railroad for " to separate the world from let us toons and the humains". In 1995, attraction Indiana Jones Adventure opens his doors but had to be built, it also, outside the perimeter park delimited by Disneyland Railroad.
In 1998, Tommorrowland is once again renovated and moreover repaints out of copper. But the restoration did not really add attraction for budgetary reasons. From the end of the year 1990, the park sees opening more and more attractions or spectacles on the characters of Pixar. In 2005 the park celebrates its 50 years but at the price of intense restorations so mainly of " gommer" errors of the last years.

The park with topics
Hand Street the USA
Main Street the USA is based on the stereotype of the main street of an American city of the beginning 20th century. It is the enjolivé memory of the small town of Marceline, Missouri where Walt Disney in its childhood lived. The Land contains many shops and restaurants and is the only country without real permanent attraction apart from the places of exposure. The shops thematized according to the Années 1880 which are followed along Main Street seem to be buildings with two truths stages. Actually, a technique of cinema, the forced prospect, was used to give the illusion which they are of normal size. The second level of the buildings is smaller of 30 cm compared to the normal. If the architects of Disneyland had drawn the buildings with their real size, they would have appeared exaggeratedly large compared to the castle.
Walt Disney says one day, " For those among us which remembers the carefree past that it recreates, Main Street will remind happy memories to them. For the younger visitors, it is an adventure which enables them to go up the calendar, until the days of the youth of large-père."
The entry is done under the station of the Disneyland Railroad and leads to a place, Town Square. On this place an American flag and a kiosk mark the heart of the city. Around the place, one finds the public buildings. The town hall ( City Hall ) acted as reception, opposite the opera is a place of exposure named Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln accommodating the audio-animatronic of Abraham Lincoln. With the top of the fire station, joint of the town hall (City Hall), is a private apartment of Walt Disney, complete but inaccessible to the public. A lamp remains lit with a window in its honor.
From this place, starts the main street bordered of shops, restaurants distributed on four blocks of houses (blocks) and separated by a street in diagonal. One of the shops the Emporium' , the largest shop of the park occupies a complete block, the first on the left.
Opposite a shop photography is used of museum and center of développement.
This fitting of shops is included in several Disney parks.
At the end of the street, the castle of the Belle to Wood sleeping rises.
Adventureland
Adventureland is designed to be an exotic and tropical place of a remote region of the world. " to create a country which would make of this dream a reality, " known as Walt Disney, " we drew, far from any civilization, of the moved back jungles of Asia and Africa. , the tree-house of Tarzan ( Disneyodendron ) and the magic room of Tiki de Walt Disney ( Walt Disney' S Enchanted Tiki Room ).
New Orleans Public garden
New Orleans Square belongs to the last additions with Disneyland supervised by Walt Disney in person. Opened in 1966, it is conceived to capture the environment and the architectural details of the Bourbon Street with the New-Orleans.
This part contains celebrates it off attraction Pirates Caribbean, like Haunted Mansion. With the top of the entry of the pirates, an old private apartment of the family Disney (the second of the park) was transformed into The Disney Gallery. The remainder of the country is mainly made up of small streets with shaded shops and restaurants. A station of the Disneyland Railroad serves this country.
New Orleans Square is also the address of a private club with restaurant, the Club 33, located just above the Blue Bayou Restoring at the angle of the entry of the Pirates of the Caribbean.
Frontierland
Frontierland recreates a camp of pioneers in Far West. According to Walt Disney, " Us all, let us have raison d'être proud of the history of our country and naps worked by the pioneer spirit of our aïeux. Our adventures are conceived to give you the feeling to have lived, even a short moment, during these pioneers days of America. .
In 2003, an attraction of the scenic type Parcours called Many Adventures off Winnie the Pooh replaced old attraction Country Bear Jamboree .
The latter, a spectacle including/understanding of the audio-animatronics in the shape of bear singing and imported in 1973 of the Magic Kingdom of Walt Disney World Arises, could accommodate in two distinct rooms twice more people than her " sœur". But the public for lack of interest or a bad localization almost never allowed to use the second room.
Fantasyland
After being last under the castle of Beautiful with Wood sleeping, one arrives in the country of the fairy tales and the stories of Disney.
Walt Disney known as of Fantasyland, " Which child didn't dream to fly with Peter Pan to the top of London to fallen the night, or to tumble down in the Country of the Wonders without common direction of Alice? In Fantasyland, the traditional stories of the childhood of each one become a reality for all the young people - of all ages - to which they can take share. .

Tickets
For the park of Disneyland (and also of the Magic Kingdom) before 1982 (and the opening of EPCOT in Florida), the price of attractions and entry in the park was dissociated. After a tariff of admission, the visitors were to get notebooks of tickets containing 10 coupons of different values identified by the letters has with D then with the Matterhorn Bobsleds in 1959, the E.
In 1955, the price was of 1$ for the admission and 2,50 $ for the notebook. The number of ticket and their unit value evolved/moved during the years until 1982 when the system was replaced by a single ticket with 10$.

- a small building in the North-East of the park is very singular, on two levels, the workshops maintenance and repair of the railroad and the monorail are superimposed.
Transport
Many means of transport cohabit in Disneyland. It was a will of Walt Disney which wished to show with its fellow-citizens that the cohabitation of several means of transport allows a fluid circulation of the people. At the time of the opening the problems of saturated and bottled downtown areas existed already.

Various facts
Anecdotes
-
Tomi Ungerer gives an example of the American culture, Disneyland is a summary of European architecture: “I am the first to regret the precedence of the tourists of the faithful ones in this place [[Cathedral of Strasbourg]] agent of so much of prayers, so much of gratitudes and jubilation, so much of consolations in mournings and despairs. Because they are especially the visitors of passage who come to rinse the eye in his stoup. Thus, this American tourist whom I intended to address to his family: “My God! It' S right (sic) like Disneyland! ” (My God, it is like Disneyland!) ”
the castle
The castle of Disneyland is that of Sleeping Beauty because of exit three years after the opening of the park of the film éponyme. It is used like the symbol of the Studios Disney. It is inspired by the castle of Neuschwanstein builds by Louis II, integral king de Bavière in more one copy of the the Ste Chapelle.
Brothers of Disneyland
The concept of the park was copied by the Disney company with- Walt Disney World Resort with the Magic Kingdom
- Tokyo Disney Resort with Tokyo Disneyland
- Disneyland Resort Paris with Disneyland Paris
- and recently with HongKong Disneyland Resort with HongKong Disneyland.
But of others also made copies of the park such Nara Dreamland, close to Nagoya to the Japan from now on closed since the end of 2006 or the new whole (May 2007) Beijing Shijingshan Amusement Park. Sometimes only attractions are imitated, (Pirates of the Caribbean to Bellewaerde in Belgium), Space Mountain with Europa Park.
The Disneyland logo
The logo of the Disneyland park does not use graphics associated with the writing with Walt Disney. It uses a C-W communication inspired of the penmanship of Gothic illuminations. Walt Disney decided this use at the beginning of the park, as can attest it the first tickets or the invitation cards for the opening ceremony.
By association, the logo of the complex uses also this safe graphics for the logo conceived in 2001 including the castle, the bear of Disney' S California Adventure and the monorail. It uses the scriptural graphics of Disney for the word " Disney" but not for the word " Land" contrary to Disneyland Paris where only " Paris" do not use this C-W communication.
closings of the park
Disneyland was obliged to close only four times in its history.- the first time is due to the assassination of President Kennedy. Urban legends circulated saying that Walt Disney refused to put the American flag of Town Square in Bern - however Disney and his/her Roy brother were on an aircraft bringing back them since the other side of the country after having flown over the future site of Walt Disney World Resort.
- the second time was in August 1970 when a manifestation of the Youth International Party ( Yippies ) had turned to the invasion of the park. The advanced reason was that one of the sponsors of Disney, Bank off America financed the Guerre of Vietnam.
- Disneyland closed again at the time of the attacks of the September 11th, 2001 (closing announced between 5:30 and 7:00), for two reasons - firstly by respect and secondly if plans would aim at the park, which is a symbol of the American culture.
- a planned closing took place the May 4th 2005. Though the first reason given was that Disneyland was to put a final key at the ceremony of the 50e birthday, this closing enabled him to make sure of a good press coverage and to generate an interest for this 18 months commemoration which began the May 5th.
