Synopsis
Nowadays, in a hotel room of San Francisco, a journalist records on his tape recorder the account of a Vampire old several centuries:Louis de Pointe of the Lake was a young owner of agricultural domain, the Point-of-lake, close to New-Orleans at the 18th century. After the death of his wife and her son, it makes the meeting of a vampire, Lestat of Lioncourt, which offers immortality to him, in exchange of a luxurious life of French colonist. After having benefitted from his last sunset, Louis is almost emptied of his blood by Lestat, which offers then its own substance to him of vampire. The life of mortal of Louis is then finished. Its directions are multiplied by ten, it discovers a world with the scents, with the new sounds, but a life based on the death of the others. Those which make gift of their blood against their liking…
The two companions remain some time with the Point-of-lake before being discovered and driven out by the slaves of the exploitation. They leave to take refuge in the close exploitation for one night, before being again expelled by the mistress of the places, Babette, which had however accommodated them… They elect finally residence in a house of New-Orleans. The two vampires never got along perfectly: Louis inlassablement puts questions about their state, their origins, their capacities, etc which Lestat never answers frankly.
One night, Lestat transforms into vampire a young girl, Claudia, to make sure that Louis remains with him. But Claudia, very attached to Louis, does not get along with Lestat, in particular reproaches him for having transformed it into vampire whereas it was still a child, which it will remain of this fact for always. It decides to remove their Master-vampire to both, making him drink a poisoned blood. And with the assistance of Louis, it gets rid of the body in the marshes bordering the Lac Pontchartrain. But Lestat did not die and returns some time later, the departure day before of Claudia and Louis for the Europe, accompanied by a young vampire. The discussion does not have time to start that already Lestat is covered with flames, and second once left for death.
In Europe, in the search of other vampires, Louis which is always presented in the form of a father, and Claudia the girl, begin their research in the Carpates. But they meet only creatures without hearts there, mowing with the aveuglette their victims, and aggressive towards the others " espèces" vampires. Finally, it is with Paris that they meet vampires similar to themselves. The group lives in the basement of a theater, the theater of the vampires, where they give representations to a public of mortals. Oldest of them, Armand is presented in the form of a senior of the vampires on ground. A strong connection settles between him and Louis, but Claudia constitutes an obstacle with their coexistence. Other members of the troop, whose Santiago, wish the death of the newcomers, suspectés to have killed their Master-vampire. To get a substitute with his absence when it leaves his daughter for Armand, Louis agrees to offer Madeleine, like woman-vampire, in Claudia. The life of vampire of this one will be of short duration, because one night, the theater company seizes Claudia, Madeleine and Louis. This last is locked up in a coffin, trapped miner, while its two comparses are condemned to died by exposure to the rays of the sun. The origin of this removal is the arrival of Lestat to Paris, which reveals what Claudia inflicted to him. Louis is released by Armand. He decides to be avenged by burning the theater right before the paddle, which does not leave any chance to its occupants to be left there… Then it is joined by Armand with whom they leave to make a long voyage, before returning finally to New-Orleans. There, Louis finds Lestat, but does not remain with him, in spite of supplications of this last. Armand leaves Louis whose life, according to him, does not require to be told as from this time.
After this account, the journalist asks Louis to transform it into vampire, which he refuses, and the met in rage. Finally, he drinks some mouthfuls of blood of unconscious before taking leave… The journalist, weakened, note the approximate address of Lestat…
