Discrimination and deportation of homosexual under the Nazi Germany
Before the beginning of the Second world war, the Homosexuel S in Germany, particularly with Berlin, profited from a greater freedom and acceptance that elsewhere in the world. However, after the accession with the capacity of Hitler, the homosexual ones, and to a lesser extent, the lesbians, two of the groups persecuted by the Nazis constituted and counted finally among the victims of the genocide Nazi. As from 1933, the homosexual organizations were prohibited. The books relating on homosexuality, and sexuality in general, were flarings. The homosexual ones within the Nazi party were them-even carried out. Gestapo drew up lists the homosexual ones, and the contraigna to respect “German sexual normality”.
One estimates at 1,2 million the number of homosexual in Germany, in 1928. Between 1933 and 1945, one estimates that 100.000 were stopped like homosexual, and that among those 50.000 were officially condemned like such. The majority achieved their sorrow in usual prisons, but 5.000 to 15.000 of them were imprisoned in Concentration camps. It is difficult to establish how much among the latter perished there. Ruediger Lautman thinks, however, that the death rate of homosexual in the concentration camps was roughly 60%. The homosexual ones were treated, indeed, in a particularly cruel way by their guards, while being subjected to the persécussions of their fellows-prisoner. That explains the particularly high death rate of homosexual in the concentration camps, compared to the other “antisocial groups”.
History
In the Nazi Germany, on March 8th 1933, the first Concentration camps open their doors. Berlin, which was regarded as the capital of freedom Homosexuel it, becomes the theater of an active repression: the homosexual nightclubs, meeting places, coffees and bars are closed, and the men who attended them are stopped, imprisoned or off-set. In the Nazi camps, the homosexual deportees must carry a pink Triangle, point turned to the bottom, which identifies them like such. Quotations
- “If I admit that there is 1 to 2 million homosexual, that means that 7 to 8% or 10% of the men are homosexual. And if the situation does not change, that means that our people will be destroyed by this contagious disease. In the long run, no people could resist such a disturbance of his life and his sexual balance… Noble people of race which has very few children have a ticket for beyond: he will not have any more any importance in fifty or hundred years, and in two hundreds or five hundred years, he will have died… Homosexuality ruins any output, any system based on the output; it destroys the State in its bases. To that the fact is added that the homosexual one is a radically sick man on the psychic level. It is weak and shows coward in all the decisive cases… We must understand that if this defect continues to be spread in Germany without we being able to fight it, it is the end of Germany, the Germanic end of the world. ”
