Disco music Re-examined
Disco Re-examined is the first magazine French specialized in the Rock. It appeared the September 28th 1961 with Johnny Hallyday in cover. It ceased existing in December 1967. In spite of a short existence (6 years), Disco music-Review profits still today, forty years after its disappearance, of a flattering reputation.
This magazine Mensuel was founded by Jean-Claude Berthon, originating in Nancy, which directed it until the end. It contributed to make known in France the American rockers, in particular Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly, then the English groups like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, in particular, and to popularize the first singers French rock'n'roll, Johnny Hallyday, Sylvie Vartan, the Black Socks…
Disco Re-examined was also the first magazine to publish a classification of the best record sales in France, with the assistance of correspondents divided in all France. It was still the first to consult its readers to know the popularity of the singers and the groups (referendums).
Published initially in black and white, with a contribution of color in cover, Disco Re-examined passed to the color starting from the n° 10 (May 1962).
Disco Re-examined carried on its road, as from November 1966, under a new name, Rockers . It was initially published in small size (two numbers), then in A4 format as from July 1967 (7 numbers). The launching of the monthly magazines Hello the Buddies in 1962 and of Rock'n'roll & Folk in 1966 contributed to its commercial decline, then with its disappearance.
About fifty numbers were published on the whole, very actively today required by the collectors.
With most extremely of its success, Disco Re-examined reached a pulling of 40.000 specimens.
