Dirk Donker Curtius

Dirk Donker Curtius , born with Wood-the-Duke the October 19th 1792 and died in Spa (Belgium) the July 17th 1864, was a lawyer haguenois and a minister Dutch which, as a liberal opponent , drew up against the capacity of the kings Guillaume I {{er}} and Guillaume II.

He pled inter alia in booklets and articles of newspapers for the introduction of the ministerial responsibility and for a directly elected Parliament.

Donker Curtius was Member of the Commission Thorbecke, charged to revise the constitution. As a minister, it skilfully presented - with the support of the king - the Commission proposals vis-a-vis a preserving Parliament mainly .

He was temporarily president of the Council of Ministers of the May 17th 1848 with the June 4th 1849.

Then, it became itself preserving and formed in 1853 with Van Hall, a former political opponent, the government Van hall/Donker Curtius.
