The Directors Guild off America Awards are trophies given each year by the trade union of the American realizers, the Directors Guild off America , since 1948.
Principal prices for the cinema
; Directorial Outstanding Achievement in Feature Film This price, commonly known under the name of DGA Award , reward the realizer of best film of the year. ; Lifetime Achievement Award In the past baptized D.W. Griffith Award (of 1953 to 1999), this price, considered as most prestigious and symbolized by a crystal trophy, reward a realizer for the whole of his work. It is allotted to a realizer whose talent is unanimously recognized by the profession. The member elects are chosen by a jury made up of the president of the Directors Guild and all its predecessors still in life. ; Golden delicious Special Jubilee Award Until now only allotted in 1986, this price rewards a realizer whose jury appreciates work as a whole. It was decreed this year with three realizers: Federico Fellini, Akira Kurosawa and Oscar Micheaux. ; DGA Diversity Award This price, founded in 1997, reward a realizer having shown a remarkable engagement relating to employment in its team of women and people resulting from the visible minorities. It was decreed only with four recoveries: in 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2005. ; DGA Honorary Life Member Award Founded in 1938 to reward D.W. Griffith, before even the officialization of the DGA Awards, this price, which consists of an attribution of the membership to life, is decreed with a member for the whole of his work or in testimony of recognition for its contribution with the DGA or the profession. ; Frank Capra Achievement Award Allotted for the first time in 1980, this price is given to a Assistant realizer or a Directeur of production for the whole of its work or in testimony of recognition for its contribution to the DGA or the profession. ; Franklin J. Schaffner Achievement Award Allotted for the first time in 1991, this price is given to an assistant realizer or a general Régisseur for services rendered to cinema industry and the DGA. ; Preston Sturges Award Allotted for the first time in 1990, this price, decreed in collaboration with WGAw ( Writers Guild off America, west - Trade union of the American scenario writers), reward a member for his assessment as well as regards scenario as as regards realization. ; Robert B. Aldrich Achievement Award Allotted since 1984, this price is given to the one of the members of the DGA for rendered services. ; President' S Award Allotted for the first time in 1998, this price rewards a member whose exemplary acts made it possible to perfect the prosperity and the image of the DGA and cinema industry as a whole. It is decreed only unanimously voters of a jury made up of the president of the Directors Guild and all its predecessors still in life.
