Direct Network Attached Storage
Network Direct Attached Storage (NDAS) is a kind of NAS, in other words, a system of disc network, property of the Ximeta firm. It differs from NAS because it is necessary to install a software NDAS on each station to reach the disc network. The disc is seen like a local disc by each machine. The access is done without passing by TCP/IP, but directly by the Adresse MAC. The protocol used is LPX.
The disc thus installed is accessible only to the ordintateurs from the lan to which it is connected. In particular, its contents are not accessible “remotely”, i.e. since the Internet, because protocol LPX is not routable.
