Dir.com
The site Dir.com is a search engine created in 2002 by the company Iliad.
Developed with its beginnings with an aim of providing an international directory, it rather quickly becomes an search engine. It was that proposed by Free on its banner page during a few months, then on its “Perso Pages”.
As of 2003, this engine is characterized by the speed from its answers and the absence from publicity. It is the first search engine allowing the requests by insertion of key words directly in the bar of address of the navigator. For example: wikipedia.dir.com
Proposing research in the languages Frenchwoman and Spanish, indexing approximately 150 million pages in French, it has of a sober presentation of the results, a research being able to take account of the accentuated characters and an effective parental filter.
For reasons of performance, the engine is entirely developed in C and rests on the free Operating system FreeBSD.
Dir.com is attended less today than at his beginnings, its creator having left Iliad in 2005, the project marks the blow, and no evolution was brought since the departure of this one.
