Dioscore (antipape)
Dioscore , deacon of Alexandria, died in 530, was antipape during a few weeks during the last year of its life.
To died of the pope Felix IV, on September 22nd, 530, two candidates present themselves on the throne of Pierre: a Goth (the archdeacon Boniface), and Dioscore.
Indicated by its predecessor, Boniface has the support of the party goth of Théodoric Large the. Dioscore, as for him, close adviser of various the thirty previous year old popes, is supported by the Byzantine Empire being opposed to this choice and is made elect by the Roman clergy, which refuses the interference of Goths.
Dioscore dies on October 14th, 530, three weeks after its election, thus avoiding a schism with the Church.
Boniface II condemned its memory, forcing the voters of Dioscore to retract, but holy Agapet Ier, pope as from May 535, rehabilitated it morally, which led some to deduce from it that its election was legitimate and to count Dioscore like pope.
