Diodore Ier of Jerusalem

Diodore Ier (in Greek Διόδωρος A' , born Damian Karivalis in 1923 - died in 2000) was orthodoxe patriarch of Jerusalem of the February 16th 1981 with the December 19th 2000.

Biography

Diodore Ier was born in the island from Tap-holes on August 14th, 1923. At the 15 years age, in 1938, it joined the monastic brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre with Jerusalem and pronounces its monastic vows later six years. In 1947, become priest, it goes to Athens to make studies of Théologie. It is named representing of the patriarch of Jerusalem with Amman in 1962, after being elected bishop of Hiérapolis: it will remain it until its patriarchal election. It developed the schools and the hospitals and organized the assistance with the Palestinian refugees to with it. Lastly, he is elected with the head of the Church of Jerusalem on February 16th, 1981, after the death of Benoît I {{er}}. He dies on December 19th, 2000, at the age of 77 years, him which was reached of a paralysis of the lower extremities.
