Diocese of Bayeux-and-Lisieux
The Diocese of Bayeux - and Lisieux was founded on the territory of the Gallic people of the Bajocasses, one also speaks about the Bessin.
The first bishop of Bayeux was Saint Exupère, at the 4th century. The diocese belongs to the ecclesiatic province of Rouen; the bishop of Bayeux is the First Suffragan one of the Metropolis. Its most famous holder is Odon de Conteville, half-brother of William the Conqueror. The cathedral is placed under the term of Notre Dame of the Assumption and carries for a time immémorable the title of Insigne Church.
