Dinky Toy

The mark Dinky Toys was created with the the United Kingdom in 1933

Chronology

Created in 1933 in the United Kingdom, a French series of Dinky Toys was produced in France since 1934. The first models were roadsters, cut sport and other trucks of English or American inspiration, as well as figurines, they also at the 1/43, representing characters of the daily life and personnel of station and railroad. All these objects had as a function first to brighten the railway circuits. Dinky Toys France will first of all produce models designed in the United Kingdom whose moulds will be more or less improved.

In railway model making, the current reference of the time is the scale " 0" , it corresponds to a reduction on the scale 1/43,5e precisely, it is this same scale which was selected for the miniatures. The trucks, them, were reduced to the 1/50e, these standards are still of setting today. The expression Dinky Toys can result in " nice jouets". The review " Argus of Miniature" in its quotation proposes regularly. Certain rare or very rare models can reach biddings record in auction-rooms, but the majority remain with accessible tariffs.

First Dinky Toys entirely French will be the Peugeot 402, in civil version then taxi and the Simca 5. These two models will appear in 1939. Dinky Toys France ceases its production during the war, its tools being used by the German manufacturer Märklin to manufacture accessories.

Until the end of the years 1960 the mark had much success. Its main competitors were Solido and Norev in France, Corgi Toys in the United Kingdom.

In 1964 the British firm was repurchased by Triang but the name Dinky Toys was preserved. Then it was the repurchase by Airfix in 1971 and the attempt at a series of models in kit on a 1/25e scale

The closing of the factory of Bobigny, put an end to the production of Dinky Toys in France in 1972. Starting from 1974, Dinky Toys Frenchwomen were produced in Spain at the end of a contract with the firm Auto Pilen. The year 1979 seems to ring the knell of the mark, however in 1981 will leave two more miniatures carrying engraved on their floors the mark Dinky Toys, a Ford Fiesta and a Simca 1307/1308. In 1986, Matchbox becomes owner of Dinky, the name remains… (without: Toys) and changes owner to the liking of the repurchases.

The Dinky mark always saw… How to imagine that it disappears!!!!
