Two bags of Dining and history on Wallonia
The tragedy of 1914
The city was more tragically famous in 1914 because following a " distort belief sincère" they give the direction in German Atrocités, Horne and Kramer showed that the massacres of civilians (perceived like franc-tireurs) by the German imperial army on the main axis of the invasion in August 1914, struck hard the city of Dining (674 men, women and children passed by the weapons, of the whole districts destroys by fire). However this tragedy which made thousands of dead in a little more than one month mainly in Wallonia (which was located on the axis of invasion), with Tamines and Andenne in particular), but also in France and Flanders discredited Germany, gave the moral advantage to the Allies founded to carry out what they called the " war of the droit" , a central role in the engagement of the USA in 1917 played, explains the exodus of million civilians as of the first combat of May 1940.
That of 1466
It is curious to think that this tragic fate, the city had already known it in 1466 when the count of Flanders, duke of the Brabant, Limbourg and Burgundy took the city which would have insulted it. This year, it was also set fire to and plundered; 800 Dinantais were drowned in the Meuse. In a certain direction one can say that these two terrible bags illustrate one of the axes of the European history according to Fernand Braudel with knowing the competition between the two parts is and western old empire of Charlemagne (France and the Germanic one), of which the third (Lotharingie), haunted according to Jean Lejeune quoting the Burgundian chroniclers, the dreams of size of the Dukes of Burgundy. Jules Michelet devoted very beautiful pages in Dining and Liege and in particular with the dramas on 1466 (Dining) and 1468 (Liege), which deeply register these two cities in the Histoire of Wallonia.
