“Dimebag” Darrell Abbott (August 20th 1966 - December 8th 2004) (also known under the name of Diamond Darrell ) was the guitarist of the group of Groove metal Pantera. His/her father, musician of music Country, had his own studio where Darrell and its brother Vinnie Paul looked at bluesmen playing. This early influence marked the musical register of Pantera, in spite of the very hard orientation of their sound.
Darrell takes part very young person in competitions of Guitare organized by Dean in its birthplace of Dallas to the Texas. At 16 years, it was even isolated participation, having too often gained it. It is thanks to the prices gained in these competitions - in particular the guitar become since its signature - what could be founded Pantera. Dave Mustaine even proposed to him to join Megadeth but he refused for thus remaining with his brother.
Its major influences were the play of Eddie Van Halen (with which it was often compared), and Ace Frehley. It quoted several of its contemporaries in addition: Kerry King (Slayer), Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society, Ozzy Osbourne), James Hetfield (Metallica), Page Hamilton (Helmet) as well as groups Old School like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden.
His/her brother Vinnie Paul was beater at his sides. In 2000, the frangins as Rex Brown were implied with the singer country David Allan Coe in a side-project called Rebel Meets Rebel. After the separation of Pantera in 2003, the Abbott brothers formed Damageplan. Their album New Found Power , reached the 38ème place of the record sales in 2004.
December 8th, 2004, Dimebag Darrell was assassinated on scene during a concert of Damageplan by some Nathan Gale in Alrosa Villa nightclub with Columbus, Ohio. The man made at least four dead among the members of the group and the assistance, before being cut down by a police officer named James Niggemeyer. Before drawing on Dimebag Darrell, Nathan Gale would have shown a statement relative to its sourness separate the Pantera group. Today, of many groups pay homage to Darrell, in particular Slayer which posted a portrait of Dimebag during their last concert in France with the Omnisport Palate of Bercy in 2006. Or such as the group Head Machine with their song " Aesthetics Off Hate" , and Watcha in their Phoenix album, with the Dimebag song. Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society), friend of Dimebag, also paid homage to this last by composing " In This River" (of the album Maffia ) and by carrying out many actions in its honor.
Equipment
During most of its career, Dimebag Darrell played on guitars Dean ml equipped with microphones Bill Lawrence L500XL, although having made a passage at Washburn which did not last. It used Randall amplifiers and doubled its rhythmic in studio systematically. It took part in the creation of a new model of guitar for Dean: the Razorback . This guitar is marketed today and of many guitarists use it to pay homage to Dime thus.
