Dillon regiment

The Régiment of Dillon was a French regiment of the Ancien mode.

Its history

This regiment is resulting from a Regiment of Shrewsberry-Dillon which was in XVIe century with the service of the King d' Angleterre.

Following (Battle of Boyne), it was transferred in 1690 to the service from King de France under the name of Régiment from Dillon .

With the Irish Brigade, this regiment was covered with glory to the Bataille of Fontenoy.

In 1777-1782, the regiment of Dillon belongs to the French task force which took part in the Guerre of American independence.

Successive reforms

At the end of the XVIIIe century, this regiment was reinforced at the time of the reforms:
  • in 1762: by incorporation of the Regiment of Lally
  • in 1775: by incorporation of the Regiment of Bulkeley
With the French revolution, this regiment faithful to the King, was transformed by the new reforms of the army:
  • in 1791: this regiment becomes the 87 {{E}} Régiment of Infantry of Line.
  • in 1793: it east dissolves and transformed:
    • 1st Battalion: become the 157 {{E}} Half-Brigade of Infantry of Battle.
    • 2nd Battalion: become the 158 {{E}} Half-Brigade of Infantry of Battle.
