Dieue-on-Meuse
Dieue-on-Meuse is a common French, located in the department of the Meuse and the area Lorraine.
Geography
Dieue on Meuse is a village of 1.500 inhabitants which is located in the valley of the Meuse, on Right Bank of the river, with 12 kilometers of Verdun and with 23 kilometers of Saint-Mihiel. The village is crossed by the Dieue, brook which takes its source in the commune of Sommedieue, and by the channel of the East, on which a marina accommodates several yachtmen each summer.
History
The traces of settlement go up at the time Neolithic, but the origin of the agglomeration goes up at the time Gallic. Its name refers to a worship returned to water and its healing virtues. The archaeological excavations undertaken on its territory in addition revealed the existence of necropoles Gallo-Roman and mérovingiennes. Until the Revolution, the village concerns évêché Verdun and belongs to its temporal; évêché has in particular in Dieue a strong Château, destroyed on order of Louis XIII.

Dieue on Meuse is a very dynamic commune, which constitutes a small basin of employment for the villages neighborhood. There exists indeed an industrial activity with the cheese dairy Henri Hutin , or of public works with the company Berthold , which together represent nearly 400 employment. The small shops are still present with two two bakery, hairdressing salons, two coffees, two garages, a supermarket. the village also has of its dentist, three doctors and a cabinet of kinesitherapy.Dieue has a local television channel (Télédieue) which one can also view on the Net.
The Agriculture is as well established, with cereal culture, bovine and porcine breeding.
Places and monuments
- the church of the decapitation of Saint Jean Baptiste dating 1826 has two square towers. Construction inspired of the neo-classic taste. Presbytery going back to 1859 with its openings and its gate neo-gothics.
- Succeeding the castle of the bishop of Verdun of the 13th century, destroyed under Louis XIII, and with that of the family Of Hautoy, missing to the revolution, the current castle at summer built near the parish church, on the initiative of Ignace de Bercheny (1689-1778), Marshal of France in garrison with Saint Mihiel. The castle is occupied at the beginning of the 19th century by Nicolas Charles Chavelot, old directing of the genious with Verdun, then by Briot de Montremy, wire of a former deputy of Verdun.
