Youth

In 1492, Diego is a page of the queen Isabelle whereas his/her father embarks for its first voyage. The will of his/her father of 1498 made of Diego and its descendants the heir to the duties, the honors and the privileges of his/her father, this is why it will pass most of its life to be tempted to take again all the titles and privileges whose his/her father had been gratifié then despoiled in 1500. It was helped in that by its marriage with María Álvarez de Toledo, girl of Ferdinand Alvare de Tolède which was the cousin of the king Ferdinand.

Governor then Viceroy

In 1508, it is named governor of the Indies, the station which his/her father occupied previously. It continues its combat for the restitution of the titles of his father and in May 1511, it is named Vice-roi of the Indies. It does not continue less its combat for the restitutions of the titles and privileges and makes two voyages of them towards Spain to this end in 1515 and 1523 without more success.

Diego dies at the time of a voyage to Seville to assist with the marriage of the emperor Charles Quint with Isabelle of Portugal in 1526.

Its widow continued the combat of her late husband and a compromise will be found, in 1536, by which his/her Luis son was named Admiral of the Indies but due to give up the perpetual annual installment of 10.000 ducats, in the island of the Jamaica as a stronghold, with the property of 25 square Lieues on the Isthme of Panamá, and under Duke of Veragua and Marquis of Jamaica.
