Died and transfiguration
Dead and transfiguration COp 24 ( Tod und Verklärung ) is a Symphonic poem writes by Richard Strauss (1864 - 1949) between 1888 and 1889 (completed partition on November 18th).
Chronologically, it is about a work of relative youth, the author being hardly 25 years old and has just completed its Don Juan .
It is about a metaphysical partition of inspiration describing, according to a written letter by Strauss in 1894, the last hour of an artist. This set of themes, aiming at sublimating a character in spite of a fine tragedy, is found throughout its work: Don Juan , but also Till Mischievous the , Don Quichotte or Macbeth . Alexander Ritter, a friendly poet of the musician, composed some stanzas to help to explain the partition at the request of Strauss.
The first took place with the festival of music of Eisenach on June 24th 1890 under the direction of the type-setter.
Some of its topics were included in the last part of a life of hero , and also in its last four Lieder.
The execution requires approximately a little more than 20 minutes.
