Didier Ratsiraka
Didier Ignace Ratsiraka (born the November 4th 1936 in Vatomandry, area of origin of his/her mother which belonged to the ethnos group Betsimisaraka) was the president of the republic of Madagascar of 1975 with 1993, then of 1997 with 2002. By his/her father who was one of the leaders of PADESM of the area of Moramanga, Ratsiraka was a political heir to this movement. Thereafter, it is linked with Céline Velonjara, girl of the one of the leaders for same PADESM.Ainsi, as of its beginnings in policy, it passed to represent the left wing of this movement, vis-a-vis a right wing represented by Tsiranana.
Its true entry in policy was done however as a soldier. Following the event of May 1972, Capitane of corvette Didier Ratsiraka becomes Foreign Minister of the government of the general Gabriel Ramanantsoa of 1972 with 1975.
Ratsiraka, known under the nickname of the red Admiral and later under the nickname of " Deba" , the power in 1976 seized and started to institute a mode claiming socialism, melting the political party of the Before guard for the restoration of Madagascar (AREMA). Its dictatorial mode which did of Madagascar one of the poorest countries of the world ended in 1993 when it lost the elections vis-a-vis Albert Zafy. Zafy was relieved in 1996, and Ratsiraka made its political return beginning 1997 by gaining the elections, under the banner of the AREMA, against Zafy and Norbert Ratsirahonana, the Prime Minister and president by interim of the moment.
But in 2001, become again Ratsiraka very unpopular, was preceded with the elections by Marc Ravalomanana by 51% against 44%. It did not accept this result that it qualifies “falsified”. A second turn was to thus take place. A politico-economic serious attack was followed from there. Ravalomanana lent oath of force the February 22nd 2002 with supports whole of the population of the Highlands Madagascan, and the two governments sought to take the control of the country. As of the end of February, Ravalomanana entirely controlled the capital Tananarive which had always been its base camp, but Ratsiraka remained with the orders in the majority of the provinces. After this crisis of several months, the camp of Ravalomanana however took the top and Ratsiraka flees of the country the July 5th 2002 of the airport of Tamatave. He currently lives in exile in Paris.
