Didier Chamizo
Didier Pierre Chamizo is a painter contemporary French born the October 15th 1951 with Cahors (Lot). It belongs to the movement of the Free Figuration.
Course
It passed more than ten years in prison to have taken part, in this time of after May 1968 where the ultra gauchism made militant followers, with the armed struggle, with attacks of banks. In 1985, first fabrics of the series " Liberté" are painted with the prison of Saint-Etienne, message launched by the painter held at the time of the bicentenary of the independence of the United States.
Of 1986 with 1989, Chamizo gives again life with the magazine the Nut by providing it the functions of Editor association, freelance journalist and especially of Illustrateur. The visiting rooms of the prisoner hold more of the living room than of the jail. Journalists come to interview this phenomenon there: Rene Deroudille, eminent art critic, discovers the painter and greets in an article the series " Liberté".
During the summer 1988, it directs a team of prisoners and painted with them the entirety of the underground corridor which connects the prisons Saint-Joseph and Saint-Paul. There, on the cement wall, it will create its first " Four in cellule".
Series " Liberté" the painter passes to the series " Révolution". Marianne, the Marseillaise of Hard, the David Apollon of Michel-Angel replace the Statue of Freedom. In 1989, the Ministère of the Culture names Chamizo Lauréat of the bicentenary. Chamizo is consequently devoted to develop l'" lettrique" abstraction; , a coloured overlap of expensive words in its heart, those of article 3 of the Universal declaration of the human rights: " Any individual is entitled to the life, the freedom and the safety of his personne." Written in all the languages, these words open out in bottom of its tables or on carcasses of television sets.
In July 1991, at the end nine years of imprisonment, Chamizo profits from its first permission. It is there that it will meet " Lolo" , Laurence Dreamed, journalist with whom it corresponded from time to time. It is the love at first sight. The release is close. At the end of August, they are found at the time of a new transferring towards the prison of Cahors where the artist must profit from a semi-freedom to complete his sorrow. It is released on November 11th, 1991.
During the summer 1992, it carries out a monumental painting of eight hundred square meters on a cement wall established gross in edge of the Lot river. It reports there with its manner eight thousand years of history of the wine, constant in this project by the ministry for the Culture and the Fondation Cartier for the contemporary art. Then it flies away for the Meeting, invited by Alain Séraphine. It will make an intervention with the school of the Art schools of the Meeting where it will paint on line, in front of the students, two doors of the school.
Chamizo resides in Ardeche when, in January 1993, it receives a mail of the chancellery. François Mitterrand has just granted a Presidential pardon to him. The artist is finally free.
September 1994, Chamizo paints the bottom of scene of the festival of Humanity, on the topic of the dance, while taking part in the exposure " Folds of excellence" with the museum of the Post office, where its Love letters are presented to Milk, high of more than two meters. The year is completed with the entry of the contemporary art to the circus: Chamizo carries out the curtain of scene for the gala evening of the circus Arlette Gruss, on an idea of Yves Mourousi.
Two galleries Paris iennes show its works: Eric de Montbel in May, then S. 21, which exposes Jean-Pierre Raynaud, Chassepot, Richard Di Rosa, decides to accommodate its work permanently. The end of the year offers to Chamizo the occasion to join again with the large size that it affectionate: Jacques Konckier places order to him, for the Fondation Balenciaga, of a work of two meters out of two, on the topic of Narcisse.
At the beginning of 1996, Chamizo creates a sculpture, the magic Book , for " Livrôtrésors" , exposure organized by the arts center Aragon d' Oyonnax. It joins " Schizophrenias-Discordances" , a collective presentation which is held Gaveau room, in Paris, at the sides of Peter Klasen, Erró, Ben, Robert Combas… From October at December, Chamizo resides and exposes to the French arts center of Surabaya, in Indonesia. Side creation, under the pseudonym " Chamirosa" , from painted works are born with a work with four hands, in collaboration with the sculptor Richard Di Rosa, according to the tales and the legends of the whole world.
In September, " My mythology of the cinéma" celebrate the festival of the American cinema of Deauville, with the casino. Parallel to its work, Chamizo is voluntarily implied actively, and without media glares, with humanitarian actions in favor of the children. Throughout the Yugoslav conflict, it mobilized many friends artists to collect money and products of first need. Together, they offer at the end of the war of many works to the Académie of the fine arts of Sarajevo. With the workshop, Chamizo continues its search of " Masques" at the same time as it gives rise to another series, " The Church cathodique".
In June 1998, Chamizo takes part in " 80 artists around Mondial" , a collective exposure organized by the gallery Enrico Navarra, in Paris, with Francesco Lenient, Jeff Koons, César, Arman, Niki de Saint-Phalle, Kenny Scharf… Chamizo attacks then with a new wall whose topic is " Foot" planet;. Once again, the artist joins again with the public this direct contact which he appreciates so much. Passers by and motorists meet it around his " workshop-échafaudage" and follow during four weeks the realization of a contemporary work of art, in full street. Year 1998 is closed on a new exposure inhabitant of Saint-Etienne, with the gallery the Sunflowers, where Chamizo presents its tables to the sides of the sculptures of Richard Di Rosa.
