Dichlore

The dichlore ( Cl2 ) is a Molécule made of two Atome S of Chlore. It is a Gaz in the Normal conditions of pressure and temperature.

It is a gas yellow-green ( chloros means “green” in Greek). It is 2,5 times heavier than the Air. It has a suffocating odor very unpleasant and is extremely toxic.

The dichlore was discovered by Scheele in 1774. It was used at the time of the First World War as poison gas, the Bertholite.

It can be produced easily by electrolyzing a sodium chloride solution

2Na+ + 2Cl- + 2:00 20 → 2NaOH + Cl2 + H2

Use

The dichlore is used as raw material to produce Hydrochloric acid ( HCl ) by reaction between the dichlore and the Dihydrogène. It is also used to produce Polychlorure of vinyl ( PVC ).
