Diastole
The diastole (of the Greek διαστολή which means expansion ) is the period during which the Cœur is slackened after being contracted. One speaks about ventricular diastole when the ventricles are slackened, and of auricular diastole when the atria are slackened. During the ventricular diastole, the pressure in the ventricles (left and right) drops compared to the peak which it had reached during the Systole. When the tension of the left ventricle drops in lower part of that of the left atrium, the mitral Valve opens, and the left ventricle fills of the blood which had accumulated in the left atrium.
Pathology
The arterial blood backward flows related to valvular incontinences occur during the diastole.Contrary, the auriculo-ventricular contractings are expressed during the Systole.
The diastolic Souffle S are always pathological.
