Diana Ross

Diana Ross (born the March 26th 1944 with Strait, Michigan) is a singer of Soul, pop, and Rhythm and blues American.

Biography

The complete name related to its birth certificate is Diana Ernestine Earle Ross , the first name Diana resulting from an error at the time of the inscription on the birth certificate, his/her parents having wished the prénommer Diane, first name which will be used in the everyday life lasting all its youth until the starting of its musical career at Motown. Ernestine is the first name of his/her mother, her intermediate name Earle is the family name of his/her mother and Ross, its family name, comes to him from his/her father.

In 1959, Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard and Barbara Martin found Primettes. In 1960, they sign a contract with the company Motown and they are renamed The Supremes the following year. Barbara Martin leaves the group later a few months. Their first very large success is Where did our coils go in 1964. In 1967, the popularity of Ross is such as the group becomes Diana Ross & the Supremes . In 1967 Florence Ballard is replaced by Cindy Birdsong. In the Sixties, the Supreme ones classify 12 songs at the head American pop classifications.

In October 1969, Diana Ross leaves the Supreme ones to start a career solo. In 1970, the song Ain' T No Mountain High Enough is classified pop number 1 In 1972, it interprête the role of Billie Holiday in the film Lady Sings the Blues what will be worth a candidature for the Oscars to him.

In 1973 after number 1 pop Touch me in the morning , appears the album of duets with Marvin Gaye Diana and Marvin . In 1976 it leaves the tube disco music Love hangover (number 1 disco music, pop and R&B) followed in 1979 of The boss (number 1 disco music) and in 1980 of Upside Down which was an enormous success (another number 1 disco music, pop and R&B, rare triplet especially at the time). In 1981, Endless Coils , a duet with Lionel Richie, is the greatest success of its career (number 1 R &B and pop). To the end of the year 2005, to England a recovery leaves its title When you Tel. me that you coils me , taken again by the group Westlife in duet with Diana Ross itself (number 2 English).

In 2006 Motown leaves an album new songs jazz recorded in 1972, " Blue" , album which is classified number 2 jazz.

Its return discographic in 2007 to the United States, after 7 years of absence, is a success. The album " I coils you" left in October 2006 number 16 R &B is classified. It starts then an American round in April followed by Europe in May.

Diana Ross is the woman having sold the most discs of the history. She and the Supreme ones are exceeded only by Elvis Presley and Beatles according to the Guiness book of the records.
