Diamond Mandarin

The Diamant Mandarin ( Taeniopygia guttata ) is the estrildidé most common and most familiar of the center of the Australia.

Diamonds mandarins live the open steppes with the dispersed bushes and the trees, but adapted to the human disturbances, tie profit of the water holes made by the man, and of the spaces opened by deforestation.

There exist two distinct subspecies. Taeniopygia guttata guttata , Diamond Mandarin of Timor, extends from Lombok in the islands of the Probe or from Nusa Tanggara in Indonesia in Sermata, in addition to the coastal sectors around the Australian continent. The other subspecies is Taeniopygia gutatta castanotis . The latter is found on most of Australia continental and certain of these varieties are regarded as domestic S.

It would seem that for a few years Diamond Mandarin has made its appearance in Europe of the South to the Portugal, where the climatic conditions would be rather favorable for him.

The morphological differences between the subspecies include differences in the face. Taeniopygia guttata guttata is smaller than Taeniopygia guttata castanotis and does not carry the same distinctive mark on the throat and the upper part of the chest.

Diamond Mandarin reproduces after important rains occurred in its natural habitat, at any time of the year: the individuals in captivity are thus likely to couple themselves throughout the year. Adaptable and changeable in the construction of their nests, wild diamonds can be installed in niches, caves, bushes, maquis, burrows of rabbits, on nests of Termite S even in the holes present in human structures. Apart from the periods of reproduction, the nests are also useful for the night rest of the birds.

Diamonds mandarins have a behavior extremely Grégaire, and it is extremely rare to see a isolated individual: these birds prefer to evolve/move in group of several couples. Males and females do not move away one from the other than when the nest must be kept.

Diamonds mandarins are sometimes used for to model avian populations or to study the capacities of interpretation of the sounds by the Cerveau, thanks to their capacity to be recognized and react to the Chant S of their congeneric. Their popularity as a subject of study also comes from the facility of their reproduction - it is for this same reason that they can also be acquired by the private individuals like birds of company at a relatively accessible price.
