Dialog box

In Data-processing, a dialog box is a particular window used by a program or the Operating system to inform the user of an event by posting a message with the screen or so that the user gives an answer to a question. These windows are named thus because they establish a dialog between the user and the computer, either to inform him of information, or to ask him something, or even both at the same time. In the computerese, one says that a dialog box is a Widget or a control.

Dialog boxes of various types are used to interact in various manners with the user. The simplest type of the dialog box is alarm. Its role is to post a message and to require of the user to confirm that it read it well (generally while asking him to click on a button OK). Alarms are used to simply give the confirmation which an action was indeed carried out.
