Dia (island)

Dia (in Greek modern: Δíα ) is a island located at a few kilometers in the north of the capital of the Crete, Héraklion. The island, now uninhabited, is a reserve of Chèvre S savages.
Of vaguely quadrangular form, the island 6 kilometers is long and broad of 4,5. Of a surface of 12 km ², it is vastest of the islands of the Littoral crétois. The legend tells that a giant lizard tried to eat the Crete. Zeus petrified it of a love at first sight, which formed Dia.
One there touve of important vestiges of the Minoan time , which could let think that Dia was an important center.
In the Greek Mythology, Thésée would have made stopover there after having killed the Minotaure. It gives up ARIANE there before setting out again towards Athens.
