Dhimmitude

The word dhimmitude indicates the situation of the indigenous populations Christian and Jewish being under ic jurisdiction Islam because of military expansion of Islam, when the territories colonized by the Djihad were governed by the Islamic law.

This law, which confers a particular status, that of the Dhimmi , i.e. of " protégés" subjected to legal discriminations (e.g.: less value of testimony in front of a court), with religious prohibitions (e.g.: to build or repair churches or synagogs) and with legal incapacities (e.g.: to employ a Moslem, to marry a Moslem woman) with these populations not-Moslem women, determined all the evolution of their history. The field of the dhimmitude includes/understands the examination of this discriminatory legal status, the relationship between the various people dhimmis divided in the Islamic surface, internal cleavages specific to each group and their reactions to the political and religious interferences of foreign States. However precisely, it is out of Holy Land, that, at that time, the whole of these factors concentrated which in other areas of the Islamic surface, appeared in a less complex context.
