Dhi Qar
The province of Dhi Qar is one of the 18 provinces of Iraq.
Before 1976 the province was called province of Muntafiq.
History
The province contains the principal archeological sites of civilization Sumérienne: Ur, Eridu, Lagash and Girsu.
Recent events
the proposal to amalgamate the province of Dhî Qâr with the provinces of Al-Basra and Maysan to form an autonomous state in a federal Iraq can be under consideration since the law of 2006 authorizing the fusion of the provinces.The area one of was opposed to the mode of the party Baath and Saddam Hussein. It was one where those where the American forces met a very virulent opposition. In September 2006, the province passed under the control of the Iraqi security forces which took the changing of the Italian quota.
Geography
The population of this province is mixed of Arab S and Kurdish S, with a majority of Kurds.
