Dexos
DexOS , or Dex, a diminutive of DOS Extreme, known before under the name of Dex4u, is a free Operating system for computer and Intel architecture x86. He is written completely in assembly language with syntax FASM (" flat assembler"). DexOS uses the Mode protected 32 bits. Its development is supervised by Craig Bamford and several member of the DexOS community.
DexOS wants to be a modern DOS. Mono-task, Interface in line of order (ILC), and also graphic Environment (EG). It is able to charge with the modules like pilots for the charts sound.
DexOS integrates for the moment some basic integrated orders, (TIME, DATE, MORE (bill-poster of text), HELP, RUN…), two extensions of specific files, and some capacities network (Waiter HTTP…).
A transcription for the Processeur ARM (for execution on GP2X) is in court of realization.
History
DexOS started in the shape of a branch of development of V2_OS (pre-0.70 version). It was a time called V3OS, then its developer taken the party to break with the ideas of development in the course of V2_OS (the Multi-tâche for example). In fact, the development of V2_OS did not reach that of DexOS, which is always under development.
DexOS evolved/moved much since time when it was called V3OS; it is independent of V2_OS today, and uses a different assembler in addition. They are also incompatible (the DexOS program do not function under V2_OS and vice versa).
Programming
The developers can program for DexOS using an assembly language. One of the big changes is the integration of FASM which, coupled with an editor text (called " Tex4u), makes it possible the developers to use DexOS like system of development. Thanks to Solidus, a library C for Dex4u was developed.
Programs
DexOS carries out programs developed for him with the extensions .dex (ILC) or .gex (EG). Here are some examples:- RetroForth4u (a transcription of RetroForth)
- Space Pong (a play of pong for 2, functions in ILC and EG)
- Tex4u (editor of text)
- FASM (its transcription for DexOS)
License and source code
DexOS is always without license. But the founders are in the search of a license which would make it possible to the founding members to have a license of " (c) propriété" , which would allow whoever would contribute to the code to be covered license consequently. The source code was available before. It is now necessary to make the request of it on the official forum. This is desired on behalf of the principal developer with an aim which the people eager seulent to work with her development can have acès there.
