Devon island

The Île Devon is an island of the north of the Canadian Arctic Archipel. 27e world island by the surface, 6e of Canada and 2e of the islands of the Queen-Elisabeth. It is also the largest island of the world which is entirely uninhabited. Its surface is of approximately 55  000 km ². She is located par.

The animal life and vegetable is also weak on the island because of the climatic conditions due to the latitude and altitude. One finds there mainly small birds, musk oxen and other small Mammifère S Arctic.

The summer the temperature never exceeds the 10°C and frequently goes down to -50° during the long polar winter. Precipitations are also weak there.

Geologically, the island is mainly made up of Gneiss and Schiste. One finds there also a crater 20 km in diameter due to the impact of a meteorite 2 km in diameter fallen approximately 23 million years ago. It is the crater of Haughton. During summer, site is occupied for activities scientific dependant research space, life on Mars - the meteoritic site being close to those which one can find on the aforementioned planet -, the Géologie, the Microbiologie, etc

Although today uninhabited, a advanced station, Dundas Harbor, were established there between 1924 and 1951 populated Inuit S and mainly intended for the fishing with the Baleine.
