“the assembled gods approaching the Large Goddess asked him: “Which are you? ” She answered them: “I am the apparent form of the ultimate principle, Brahman. Of me the Nature and the Person result (Prakriti and Purusha) which constitute the universe. ”” Devî Atharvashiras (1-2)
Devî is also a generic name designating a goddess, name female corresponding to the masculine deva, designating a god. One often regards the devî as as many epithets of the Large Goddess, i.e. as many forms or aspects, of emanations or manifestations of Devî.
