Deutschlandfunk

Deutschlandfunk (DLF) is a public radio station German of information produced by Deutschlandradio.

History

In the Years 1950, the German Democratic republic (GDR) starts to diffuse the station Deutschlandsender in long Ondes. By reaction, the Nordwestdeutsche Rundfunk request a license to create a station in long waves similar. It obtains the concession in 1956.

In 1960 the West German Federal government establishes that if to diffuse for Germany is a right guaranteed to the Länder , to diffuse from Germany towards outside is a federal competence, because that concerns the foreign affairs. Also decides it to create Deutschlandfunk, a national company of diffusion based with Cologne.

When the license of diffusion of the Norddeutsche Rundfunk expires, the Federal government seizes the frequencies released for the diffusion of its new creation which starts to emit on January 1st 1962. Deutschlandfunk diffuses then in German for the German-speaking minorities of Europe of the East.

After the Reunification

After the Reunification, the Deutsche Welle absorbs Radio Berlin International, the service external of the East-German radio, and deals with the languages hitherto applied to Deutschlandfunk. The orientation of the station changes: it is transferred to ARD and becomes the national diffuser of the Germany.

The ARD then divides the activity of Deutschlandfunk into two service: DeutschlandRadio Berlin, a cultural station, and Deutschlandfunk, a station of information.

The studios are still located at Cologne and the station does not diffuse publicity.
