Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters

DTM (for Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft ) is the German championship of private cars.

Born in the Years 1980, this competition was quickly a sharp success as well on the level of the public as of the sponsors. In Germany, its popularity exceeded by far that of the Formule 1. The success of the DTM, fact of cars to the aggressive look and spectacular races in group gradually overflowed of the borders of Germany. In the middle of the Years 1990, with the downstream of the TRUSTED, the DTM was internationalized to become the ITC (International Touring Championship). But the consecutive explosion of the costs to this internationalization caused the disappearance of the championship in the middle of the Nineties.

The DTM reappears of its ashes in 2000 under the impulse of the manufacturers Opel and Mercedes, this year is gained by Bernd Schneider over Mercedes. Then, in 2002, it is Audi which made its entry in the competition.

The DTM accommodates today a great number of pilots of reputation, which they are former tenors of the Formule 1 like Jean Alesi, Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Mika Häkkinen or stars of the Endurance such Rinaldo Capello, Allan McNish or Tom Kristensen.

In 2005, three marks disputed the victory: Audi (8 cars), Mercedes (8 cars), Opel (4 cars). The mark MG Rover was to engage this season but never appeared because of its bankruptcy.

In 2006, it has again only two marks there only since Opel announced its departure at the end of 2005. Some judge the future of in the medium term vague championship even if three new circuits appeared, of which the Bugatti in France.
