Jean Baptist Edouard Detailed , born with Paris the October 5th 1847 and died in Paris the December 23rd 1912, is a academic painter French.
Biography
painter of military scenes
Resulting from a family close to the military mediums - his/her grandfather was an intendant of the Large army, its great-aunt had married the admiral Villeneuve - Edouard Detaille wanted to be a painter and study with Alexandre Cabanel. Ultimately, it was formed in the workshop of Meissonier, which provides him the subject of the first fabric that it exposed in 1867. But as of the following year, it exposed a military painting of its time, the halt of the drums . This work marked the beginning long and brilliant career of painter of history, with a predilection for the military scenes.
Scenes of battle
When burst the Guerre of 1870, Detaille engaged with the 8th mobile battalion of infantry and, in November 1870, was attached to the staff of the general Ducrot and took part in the engagements around Paris. It could observe the regiments in the fire of the action on the Marne. This experiment was to mark it deeply and inspire some of its best fabrics like Salut with Wounded the (1877), the defense of Champigny (1879), the evening of Rezonville . With Alphonse de Neuville, it produced two large Panorama S of the battles of Champigny and Rezonville. In 1872, it had to withdraw Salon two scenes of battles which could have offended the Germany. From now on celebrates, it travelled to Europe between 1879 and 1884, also visiting the Tunisia with the French troops expeditionary. In England, it painted a review of the British troops by the Prince de Galles and a scene showing the Scotts Guards with Hyde Park. But it looks further into especially its knowledge of the French Army and carried out the 390 drawings and watercolours of Types and uniforms of the French Army of Jules Richard.
In the years 1890, Detaille painted more and more fabrics inspired of the Napoleonean epopee, in particular of the scenes of battle and loads of cavalry. It used uniforms and accessories of time to perfect the exactitude of its tables. From 1902 to 1905 it paints the triptych in the apse of the the Pantheon of Paris: Towards the glory which one described as pictorial anthem to the Republic.
Member of the Institute and president of living room
He was elected member of the Académie of the fine arts in 1892, president of the Société of the French artists in 1895 and contributed to the creation of the Musée of the army in Paris.
The painting of Detailed is attached to realism and the naturalism. Detailed painted slowly and in a methodical way, in order to produce as realistic and precise works as possible.
Its family
His/her niece married Charles Otzenberger who was made call then Otzenberger-Detailed. In 1911, this last joined a certain Jean-Joseph Moser (being made call Jean, baron de Moser de Veiga), who had created an association law 1901 called Military and hospital Ordre of Saint-Lazare and Jerusalem. Otzenberger succeeded to him like " large maître" " Ordre".
Decorations
Edouard Detaille was named Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in 1872, Officier in 1881 and Commandeur in 1897.
