Destruction of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol
The destruction of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol is a fictitious nuclear holocaust, starting point of the televised series Galactica and Battlestar Galactica .
Battlestar Galactica (2003)
When the fine armistice putting at the war between the Cylons and their former human Masters of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol was signed, 40 years before the events of the series, a remote space station was built. Being intended to maintain diplomatic relations between two civilizations, each year the Colonial ones sent an emissary, but Cylons did not send anybody.
To the beginning of the pilot of the series, an ambassador was sent like every year since 40 years. But this year there, Cylons were presented to the station, and destroyed it. It was the beginning of the end for the Twelve Colonies. The fleet of war cylon arrived soon in the colonial Solar system, and started to destroy the Colonial Fleet and methodically to destroy with the nuclear weapon the colonial metropolises. Thanks to the involuntary assistance of Dr. Gaïus Baltar, a spy humanoïde cylon, the model Number Six, had been able to reach the Principal Waiter of colonial Defense to pirate it. In the same way, the human men-of-war, such as the cruisers Battlestar S or the hunters Vipers Mk VII were pirated, neutralized then destroyed by Cylons. So the Human ones could not practically oppose any resistance, and in less than twelve hours, 95% of humanity had been destroyed, and the colonial fleet did not exist any more.
Cylons sent on each of twelve planets of the thousands of combat robots of the Centurions type, charged to still exterminate the rare people in life on devastated planets. Some 50.000 survivors, grounds in various vessels, constituted a heteroclite caravan which managed to escape Cylons, under the protection of the one of both only Battlestars not having been destroyed (on 120), the Galactica ordered by the commander William Adama (the other, the Pegasus , being fled on its side).
The Battle of Ragnar
The fleet of the survivors left then towards the station supply Ragnar, where an important ammunition dump was. Indeed, the Galactica was going to be disarmed and thus had only few ammunition. Ragnar had an advantage: its atmosphere misty and was constantly shaken violent storms, which made it possible the colonial fleet to hide. However, the fleet cylon, made up of two Basestar S and hundreds of Raiders, found planet, and was posted in ambush in geostationary orbit above the station.A plan was thus elaborate: the Galactica would only leave to face the vessel-mothers cylon, while during this time, the civil fleet would flee. Once the last civil vessel would have to carry out its jump PRL towards the point of appointment, the Galactica would flee in its turn.
The plan was a success, and the fleet of the survivors could escape the trap from Ragnar, after a hard combat between the Galactica and a higher fleet cylon of number.
Galactica (1978)
After thousand years of war between the Human ones of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol and an extraterrestrial race of robots, Cylons, a cease-fire was issued. A fleet of war was sent to escort the Quorum of the Twelve and President Adar with the Conference of Peace. However, it was a trap. Cylons destroyed the colonial government and its fleet of war, which left the Twelve Colonies without defense, vis-a-vis fleets of vessels Basestar and hordes of centurions. The human survivors could flee in vessels, under the protection of Battlestar Galactica, and since then, the fleet, carried out by the Adama Commander, tries to escape Cylons.
