Destinies
the Destinies are philosophical poetries by Alfred de Vigny, which appeared in 1843 and 1854 in the Revue of the Two Worlds , and were joined together in a posthumous collection (Paris, 1864).
the Destinies have the characteristic to really expose philosophical designs and morals. The Philosophie of Vigny is an extremely high pessimism, which leads to resignation and pity. It is not used for nothing to request or to complain: it is necessary to obey the destiny passively. The honor consists in the quiet achievement of an incomprehensible task. In the part which opens volume, Alfred de Vigny shows us the ancient Destinies weighing of the foot of each man; The Christ arrives; the human heart hopes for one moment being delivered of fate; the Destinies, worry, redemandent with God their old empire, which is returned to them by the Grace.
The most famous poems of this collection are: the Destinies (1849), the House of the Shepherd (1844), the Death of the wolf (1843), the Bottle with the Sea (1853), the Mount of Olives (1862) and the pure Spirit (1863).
