Desmond Mpilo Tutu

Desmond Mpilo Tutu (born the October 7th 1931 with Klerksdorp, in South Africa) is a Archevêque Anglican South-African black which received the Nobel Prize of peace in 1984. He was then the president of the Commission of the truth and the reconciliation, charged to make the light on the Crime S made during the mode of the Apartheid.

At the time of Apartheid

Desmond Tutu is the son of a professor and a cleaning lady. It makes its studies in the town of Johannesburg. He wants initially to become Médecin, but such studies costing too expensive for his family, he intends himself to become, like his father, professor. Of 1951 with 1954, it makes its studies thus, and starts to teach in 1954 with the Johannesburg Bantu High School. But he resigns in 1957, to protest against the bad quality of the teaching given to the blacks.

He then decides to direct himself towards the Théologie. It is ordered priest Église Anglican in 1961 and becomes the Aumônier of the university reserved for the blacks, Fort Hare. Fort Hare is at the time one of the only universities for the blacks of South Africa; the current principal leaders of the country studied there. Desmond Tutu obtains in 1966 a control in theology with the King' S College of London, and turns over then to South Africa, where he works as professor of theology.

Of 1972 with 1975, it turns over in England, where he is the vice-director of the Theological Education Fund off the World Council off Churches, to Bromley in the Kent. Appointed senior of the Diocese of Johannesburg in 1975, it is the first black to occupy this station. It becomes bishop Lesotho (1976-78), then first black general secretary of the oecumenical Conseil of South Africa (1978-85).

During all these years, it did not cease making pass its message of peace and of Non-violence. He as well denounces the Régime of Apartheid, as the blacks which claim revenge. For him, peace between the people is the only possible way. It is for this pacifist combat against the mode of Apartheid, that it receives the October 16th 1984, the Nobel Prize of peace. The December 10th according to, the ceremony of handing-over of the Nobel Prize, in the large amphitheater of the university of Oslo, is disturbed by a bomb scare without consequences.

Haloed its new international stature, on September 7th, 1986, it is named archbishop of the church Anglican of South Africa. This nomination is not taste of its opponents. It then organizes protests against the racial segregation and of the campaigns of old Boycott, of which that of the coal of South Africa. It also militates for common schools, which represent for him a crucial step in the reconciliation of South Africa. It also militates against the regulation of displacements of the blacks, the “  Pass-laws  ”.

Since the end of Apartheid

Desmond Tutu becomes in 1995 president of the Commission of the truth and the reconciliation created by the president Nelson Mandela. After three years of investigations and thousands of hearings, it makes public the conclusions of the Commission in 1998. This file is regarded today as one of the angular stones of the South-African reconciliation.

As with its practice, it continues to criticize all that appears abnormal to him. Thus he denounces, inter alia, the amount of the wages of the deputies of the South-African Parliament which he considers exorbitant. The policy of Vente of weapons, which brings back much money to the new South-African capacity, is also a subject which is due to him in heart.

With regard to the foreign Politics of South Africa, he denounces the silence of his country towards the mode of Robert Mugabe, the president of the close Zimbabwe. He calls besides Robert Mugabe, a “  caricature of dictator africain  ”.

With the international level, he criticizes the attitude of the government of Israel towards the Palestinian S. He recognizes that Israel has the right to life in peace within its borders, but also thinks that the against-productive policy of oppression of Israel east and makes with final only poking the hatred of the Palestinians towards Israel. This is why it militates for the creation of a Palestinian State at the sides of Israel. However, in 2002, he did not hesitate to compare the Israeli policy with a mode of Apartheid, informant: “  that recalls me so much what arrived to us to the black people to Africa of Sud  ”
