Desmond Morton OC, Ph.D., FRSC (1937 -) is a Canadian historian specialized in the history of the the Canadian and political relations and industrial Armed forces of Canada.

Born with Calgary, in Alberta, Morton is graduate royal military Collège of Midsummer's Day and royal military Collège of Canada, after which it obtained a Bourse Rhodos to study with the Université of Oxford then to the London School off Economics. It spent ten years in the Canadian army before beginning its career in teaching.

He is the son of a general Brigadier and the grandson of the general Sir William Otter. Morton is the full professor of the pulpit Hiram Mills with the Université McGill and the former director of the Institut of Canadian studies of McGill in Montreal, in Quebec. Previously, it was the main thing of the Collège Erindale, with the Université of Toronto, 1986 to 1994.

Before beginning its career in teaching, Morton was useful as advising Tommy Douglas and Nouveau Democratic party. It was also to advise for Brian Mulroney and the Progressist-conservatives. Of 1964 with 1966, he was assistant-secretary of the néo-democratic Parti Ontario. After the electoral profit néo-democrat of 1964 in Riverdale, it told the history of this event. Its book, that it entitled The Riverdale Story , described how this determining electoral campaign had succeeded in making leave voters LED has district.

Morton accepted its doctorate with the Université of London. He is the author of twenty-five books on Canada, whose popular has Shorts History Canada off. Whereas Morton is recognized like an expert in all the fields of the Canadian history, it specializes particularly in the industrial history militiare and of Canada and in nationalisms in Canada. It is one of the only always alive historians personally to have questioned and have studied the veterans of the Rébellion of the North-West of 1869.

Professor Morton continues to serve McGill as a professor emeritus.
