Desiderio da Settignano
Desiderio de Bartolommeo di Francesco known as Desiderio da Settignano or Ferro (Settignano, about 1530 - Florence, 1464) is an Italian sculptor of the school florentine of the first Rebirth.
Biography
It was born at the village from Settignano, suburb of Florence, which gave him its name, in a family of stone masons. His/her two brothers, Francesco and Gerri, are themselves sculptors. He studies the art of the sculpture in the workshop of Bernardo Rossellino which will influence it much. As opposed to what affirms a legend based on the resemblance to the rilievo schiacciato of Donatello, Desiderio forever studied under the bunch of this artist (since Donatello is at that time in Rome and Padoue).
