Descaling

The descaling is the action consisting in removing the tartar which accumulated on the Dent S.
Contrary to the Dental plaque, the tartar cannot be eliminated with a Brosse with teeth. Descaling must be carried out by a Dentiste.

There exist several means to remove the tartar:

It is the means more used. It is painless (or almost), and comprises very few side effects. A fine high frequency end metal vibrating passed on dental surfaces covered with tartar, which makes it possible to separate it. Water is constantly projected, which at the same time makes it possible to cool the unit and to eliminate the tartar by Cavitation.
  • mechanical instruments.
There exist various instruments making it possible to remove tart, called scrapers parodontales. These scrapers eliminate the tartar by " grattage" , in complement of the ultrasounds.
  • systems of the type sanding .
It is about a jet water charged with fine calcium carbonate particles. This last is projected directly on the teeth via a tube. This type of descaling is completely painless and very effective.

Descaling can be done on 2 levels:

  • supra-gingival Descaling (above the Gum).
One eliminates the visible tartar on the teeth.
  • under-gingival Descaling (under the gum).
One eliminates the tart which is not visible, which was formed on the tooth inside the Sulcus or of the pockets parodontales. It is this tartar which is most harmful for the teeth.

Frequency necessary:
The frequency of descaling is very variable from one individual to another, according to the speed of formation of the tartar, and the sensitivity to the diseases parodontales. This speed of formation depends primarily on quality on brushing, but also on factors specific to the individual (cigarette smoking, quality of saliva…). The frequency necessary of descaling will be able to vary from every 3 months at several years.
However to simplify one can advise a descaling approximately once per annum, at the same time as a check.
