Desanka Maksimović
Desanka Maksimović (in Serb Cyrillic ДесанкаМаксимовић), born with Rabrovica close to Valjevo the May 16th 1898, died with Belgrade the February 11th 1993, was a Poète and a professor of Serb literature. It was member of the Serb Académie of Sciences and Arts.
Biography
Desanka Maksimović passed its childhood to Brankovina. It followed its secondary studies to Valjevo then higher learning to the Faculty of Philosophy of Belgrade.Of 1923 with 1953, it taught the Serb language in various establishments, initially as a professor with the College of Obrenovac, then with the College of girls of Belgrade. One of its best pupils was Mira Alečković, which became his/her friend as well as a large poet.
When she learned that the German soldiers drew on the elementary school from Kragujevac, she wrote the tale of the blood (Krvava Bajka), in which she expressed the terror inspired by the Nazis. The poem was published only in the end of the war.
Desanka Maksimović was the friend of the poets Miloš Crnjanski, Ivo Andrić, Gustav Krklec, Isidora Sekulić and Branko Ćopić.
Its poetry evokes the love and the fatherland. Among his best poems, one can quote Anticipation (Предосећање), trembles It (Стрепња), the Poème of spring (Пролећнапесма), Avertissement (Опомена), In the storm (Набури) etc
She was elected citizen of honor of Valjevo. And a statue representing it was set up in the town of alive sound.
The December 17th 1959, Desanka Maksimović was elected like associated member of the Serb Académie of Sciences and Arts. It became a full member about it the December 16th 1965.
Desanka Maksimović died in Belgrade the February 11th 1993 at the 95 years age. It was buried in the village of Brankovina, where it grew.
After its death, the Foundation Desanka Maksimović was founded, which each year distributes a price of poetry. The town of Belgrade raised a statue in the to him park of Tašmajdan; it was inaugurated the August 23rd 2007.
