Derives (aileron of surfing)
The drift (or drifts) to also call aileron, is located under the board.
They make it possible to ensure the Drive of the board, they can also be a factor of stability. According to their forms, their sizes or their materials, they can influence the behavior of the board.
The drifts constitute in even a whole piece of the science of the boards of Surfing. 1 to 5, of 6cm from top to 30cm length, all the forms or almost were tested. Under the back part of the board, they bring stability and control.
Generally, the small boards have 3 drifts and are assembled in thruster, the large boards when with them are in general the individual ones (only one drift).
The individual one is the basic assembly, only one drift in a case. On small boards or the large ones, the individual offer little resistance to advance but little of also hangs in curves, which limits its use to the eyes of the radical surfers.
The boards with two drifts, the twins were very répendues before in 1981 Simon Aderson develops the trhuster (particular figure of the tri-end where the three drifts are of size identical). Today, the return of shapes " retros" give again life with the twins.
With three drifts, one finds all the tri-ends, of the bonzer3 (a power station " normale" and two side long and low) with the thruster (three identical).
Are four drifts, they the quatros and twinzers, marriage (of reason?) between the twins for the handiness and the thrusters in term of effectiveness.
Five drifts, that exists on the bonzer5… to be little in particular elsewhere.
According to their numbers, dimensions, forms and site, the drifts fulfill their role in a different way. To change the parameters of the drifts on a board can transform its behavior with water in an important way. This is why some choose interchangeable systems of drifts.
Rules
-
Plus the back of the board is broad plus the ailerons, must have height, in order to increase control and stability.
-
Plus there are drifts, plus their size can be reduced, on a board to configure into Individual the drift must be rather high, one notices that the drifts of Quattro are generally rather small.
-
Plus the drifts are placed near to the rail, plus them will hang.
The Base
It is the part of the drift which is in contact with the board, its distance corresponds to that between the leading edge and the trailing edge.
The height
The height is the distance between the base of drift and the head of drift.
The slope (rake)
The slope of the drift is defined by the position of the end of the drift compared to its base. The more marked this slope is backwards, the more the profit into drive is important. The weaker the slope is (close to the vertical), the more the board gains of handiness but with the detriment of the drive one.
Surface
Surface varies according to the height and from the base. More the height and the base will be important and more surface will be large. What with for effect to increase control, as well as acceleration, however that with for effect to decrease the manibility. Compromises thus should be found:
- Example:
-
on a small board one will be able to install drifts with a large surface, because even if that Ci will be less handy, one compensates for it by the small size of the board.
-
Paradoxalement on the Gun S one could supposed that great drifts should be put in order to optimized stability, and well not, one can put drift with a small surface, because one can compensated hangs it thanks to the Pin tail.
