Derek Riggs

Derek Riggs is the illustrator of the small pockets and posters of the group of heavy metal Iron Maiden, and also many other groups.

It begins its career from illustrator during the Années 1970. The magazine of data base Heavy Metal publishes one of its first covers. However, Derek wishes to be characterized by its small pockets from albums. Noticed by the young hopes of the heavy metal Iron Maiden, one of its paintings is retained for the first album of English. It represents a monster called Eddie the 'Ead which quickly becomes the mascot of the group. Bound by contract, Riggs deals exclusively with all that represents Iron Maiden (disc, Merchandizing…) until the beginning of the the Nineties. Forsaking the Gouache, he more and more often works with his computer, and collaborates with artists as varied as Gamma Ray, Stratovarius, the female group Iron Maidens… ( infos drawn from “Run for cover: the art off Derek Riggs” by Martin Popoff, 2006 )
