Derecho at the canado-American border

The Derecho at the canado-American border known also under the term “ Boundary Waters Blowdown ” is a line of intense storms which broke since the Dakota S until the Golfe of Maine while passing all along the canado-American border between the morning of July 4th, 1999 and early the morning of the 5.

This Derecho is most Scandinavian of the progressive type (or hot season) ever brought back. It made five died and nearly seventy wounded. More: 700000 subscribers lost electricity, some up to one week. The damage caused by the wind with the trees, houses and other structures rose with more than 100 million $US (of 1999).

Unfolding

A convectif Complexe of méso-scale was formed in the North Dakota the night of the 3 with July 4th 1999. Around 6 hours of the morning (local time) on July 4th, the CCM were transformed into a line of grain in the shape of arc, said Grain in arc, which moved towards the town of Fargo. With the international airport Hector of Fargo, the winds blew to 95 km/h during 40 minutes with a peak to 160 km/h damaging several planes and hangars. The storm because of the damage of 85 $US million (of 1999) in area (cars, roofs, trees, etc reversed) and more: 40000 people lost electricity.

On its arrival in the area of Montreal, towards 2:30 amndt, the winds reversed trees, electric poles and other structures before continuing towards the area of the Estrie where the damage was even larger, particularly to the érablière S (+: 2000 touched trees). Hydro-Quebec reports that: 600000 people lost the current in Quebec, some up to one week
