Derafsh Kaviani
The legendary flag of the Iran would be Derafsh Kaviani . It was made of a long rectangular leather apron such as it was used by Kaveh the Blacksmith during the reign of Fereydoun. Ferdowsi quotes this apron of leather like the symbol of Iranian independence, of resistance and revolutionary spirit of the masses vis-a-vis the foreign invaders. This flag was decorated with silk bands yellow, magenta and red scarlet. Kaveh was marked Kavak in Pahlavi, which means glorious and Derafsh-e Kaviani was called thus, meaning the Glorieux flag of Iran .
Dynasty Achéménide (559-323 av JC)
For the Achéménide period, more especially at the time of Cyrus II, the Persan imperial flag was made with the royal image, of rectangular form, divided into 4 trinagles equivalent. 2 triangles was coloured of a color and the two others of another color. The Iranian national flag was, however, the same one as Derafsh Kaviano describes higher. Since the excavations led to Persepolis, the archeologists found another standard, representing an eagle, expressing the idea that it was the official flag under the reign of Darius Ier the large one and of its descendants.
Dynasty Sassanide (224-642 ap JC)
The flag has this historical junction was still made of rectangular leather of form, covered with a fine decorated layer of evening with jewels, and in the center a star with 4 branches, pointing with the 4 corners of the world. The same star is called Akhtare Kaviani (the Kaviani star) by Ferdowsi in the Shahnamah (Book of the Kings). This flag was larger than Derafsh Kaviani original installed on a long javelin, whose end appeared with the top of the flag. In bottom of this flag were bent bands yellow, magenta and scarlet red, whose broad stones hung invaluable. This flag was destroyed by the Arabs after the final defeat of Sassanides against Moslem Arabic invading the Sassanide empire.
