Departmental committee of tourism

The Departmental committee of tourism is, in France, a local organization of the Tourisme created on the level of the department as stipulated under the terms of the L.132-2 articles in L.132-6 of the Code of Tourism. Institutional creation of the council generals, it exerts legal missions. In particular, the departmental committee of tourism (CDT) “prepares and implements the tourist policy of the department. ” (art. L.132-2)

“The general advice entrusts whole or part of the implementation of the policy of tourism of the department to the departmental committee of tourism which in particular contributes to ensure the development, the promotion and the marketing of tourist products, in collaboration with the professionals, the organizations and any local structure interested in the departmental and inter-commune level. ” (art. L.132-4)

It can thus work, in particular with:

  • the promotion of the department as a destination and place of stay
  • the communication (editions, Internet site)
  • the tourist development, which aims developing the tourist offer of the department and at ensuring its adequacy with the requests of the customers
  • the tourist observation.

In addition, a certain number of CDT are equipped with a business service, a " réceptive" arranges; integrated or external (called then Service Leisures Reception) which ensures the reservation and the sale of services and tourist fixed prices (stays with of furnished, produced individual, circuits groups, etc). The objective of the CDT is not to compete with the private agencies but rather to instigate the offer of the department when there is deficiency of professionals or that the latter are not turned towards the receptive activity. This activity thus contributes to the dynamization of the territory. The activity besides is seldom balanced and generally profits from subsidies of exploitation of the community, which tends to show its objective of general interest.
