The department of Zapala is a department of the province of Neuquén in Argentina. Its chief town is the town of Zapala.

Its population was of 35.806 inhabitants, according to the census of 2001.

According to the estimates of the Argentinian INDEC, in 2005, it had 46.957 inhabitants.
