Department of Boquerón

The department of Boquerón (in Spanish: be Departamento de Boquerón ) is one of the 17 departments of the Paraguay. Its code ISO 3166-2 is PA-19.

Description

The widest department of Paraguay, with a surface of 91.669 km ², its population was however only of 45.617 inhabitants at the time of the census of 2002. This department shelters the majority of the German colonies Mennonite S (Fernheim, Menno and Neuland). The other cities are General Eugenio A. Garay, Doctor Pedro P. Peña and Mariscal Estigarribia.

In 1992, old the Département of Nueva Asunción was amalgamated with this department, then giving again to him its form of before separation in 1945. The same year, the capital was transferred from Doctor Pedro P. Peña to the current one.
