Department of Boaco

The department of Boaco (in Spanish: be Departamento de Boaco ) is one of the 15 departments Nicaragua. It is wide on: 4244 km ² and have a population of: 172500 hab. (estimate 2005). Its capital is Boaco.

History

The department was formed in 1938, by dismemberment partial of the department of Chontales.

Geography

The department is bordering:
  • in north, of the department of Matagalpa;
  • in the east and south-east, of the department of Chontales;
  • in south-west, of the department of Granada;
  • in the west, of the department of Managua.

The department has moreover a frontage, in the south, on the Lac Nicaragua.

The department is subdivided into 6 municipalities:
  • Boaco
  • Camoapa
  • San Jose of los Remates
  • San Lorenzo
  • Santa Lucía
  • Teustepe
